5 Things Brides Regret Not Considering When Choosing Their Wedding Veil

When it comes to planning a wedding, the dress usually takes center stage–but your veil? It’s the finish that can truly elevate your entire look.

As a custom veil designer, I’ve helped hundreds of brides find “the one” when it comes to veils–and I’ve also heard that they wish they’d known earlier in the process. Here are 5 things you might regret not considering when choosing your veil.

The Back of the Dress Matters

Do you have a stunning low back, delicate lace, or a dramatic bow on your gown? A veil can either frame those details beautifully or hide them completely. Choose a veil that complements the back of your dress instead of covering what you love most.

Veil Length Impacts Your Photos More Than You Think

Fingertip, chapel, cathedral–each veil length creates a different visual effect in your photos. Want something dreamy and romantic? Go long. Want something modern and minimal? Go short. I always encourage brides to picture their veil not just on the day–but in their wedding album.

Blusher: Yes or No?

Not every bride wants to wear a blusher, but if you’re even thinking about one, it’s worth planning for it early. Blushers add a soft, traditional touch when walking down the aisle and can make for really meaningful photos–just make sure the rest of your veil is designed to flow beautifully with it.

Timing is Everything

Custom veils take time (4-8 weeks) while made-to-order veils have a shorter turnaround time of 1-2 weeks. Be sure to order your veil early enough to bring it to your final dress fitting and your hair trial. The earlier it’s in your hands, the more confident you’ll feel.

Comfort is Key

You’ll be wearing your veil for hours–maybe even all day. A heavy comb, itchy lace, or stiff tulle can distract you from your day. Ask your designer about lightweight options and soft materials. (I specialize in both!). This will help you stay comfortable all day not have to fidget and fix your veil multiple times a day. Your veil should feel like an extension of your dress–not an extra piece to worry about.
