7 Must-Know Tips for Ordering Your Wedding Veil Online

Ordering a wedding veil online can feel like a total gamble. Will the color match your dress? Is the length right? What if it looks nothing like the photos? Trust–me I get it. As a custom veil designer who works with brides all over the world, I know how overwhelming it can be to pick the perfect piece without seeing it in person.

But here’s the good news: it can be simple–and even fun! With the right information (and someone to help you along the way), ordering your veil online can be one of the most exciting parts of planning your bridal look. So if you’re ready to ditch the stress and shop with confidence, here are 7 tips to help you do just that.

Know Your Dress First

Before choosing a veil, make sure you’ve finalized your wedding dress. The silhouette, fabric, and details of your gown will directly impact the type of veil that complements it best. For example, a dramatic cathedral-length veil can elevate a clean, modern gown, while a fingertip veil might work beautifully with a lace detailed A-line.

Having photos or the name/style of your gown handy makes it much easier to choose a veil that enhances, not competes with your dress.

Understand Veil Lengths

Veil lengths can totally transform your bridal vibe and they’re not one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re drawn to a dramatic cathedral, a timeless chapel, or a flirty fingertip veil, knowing the length that works best for your dress (and you venue!) will help narrow your options fast.

Pay Attention to Color

This one is huge. Veil colors can vary so much between designers–and what looks “ivory” in one photo might actually be closer to white or cream in person. If you’re unsure, ask for a comparison photo. Get in touch for a free color consultation.

Bonus tip: In most cases, if your dress is ivory, you’ll want your veil to match as closely as possible-not be whiter than your gown.

Choose the Right Comb

The comb may seem like a small detail, but it makes a big difference in how your veil wears throughout the day. I only use metal combs in my design because they are stronger, more secure, and easier for your hairstyle to work with–especially if you’re wearing your veil through your ceremony, photos, and first dance.

Plastic combs can easily bend or slip. No thank you!

Check the Shop’s Return & Custom Policies

If you’re ordering a made-to-order or custom piece, it’s likely final sale–so make sure you understand the shop's policies. Don’t be afraid to ask about turn around time, cancellations, or what happens if you need a small adjustment. (I always include clear timelines and offer 24-hour cancellation windows for made-to-order veils.)

Knowing what to expect helps avoid last minute surprises during such a busy season of life.

Look for Real Bride Photos or Reviews

Stock photos are helpful, but seeing veils on real brides? That’s gold. Look through tagged photos on Instagram, reviews on the website, or ask the designer if they have examples of the style you’re considering. It’s a great way to get a feel for how the veil moves, lays and photographs.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions

You deserve to feel confident and supported during this process. A good designer will gladly answer your questions, send extra photos, or help guide you to the right choice–even if that means customizing something just for you.

I offer free consultations because I want every bride to feel 100% sure before ordering. If you’re feeling stuck, I’m just a message away.

Ordering Your Veil Should Feel Magical–Not Stressful

Choosing your veil online doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With these tips, you’ll be able to navigate the process with clarity and confidence and maybe even enjoy it! This is your moment, and your veil should feel like you.

If you ever need a second opinion, someone to help with color-matching, or want to explore custom options, I’d love to help. Click here for a free veil consultation or to inquire. I can’t wait to create something beautiful for you!
